Industry presentations

I'm regularly invited to participate in industry events as a keynote speaker or panelist, most often regarding my work for the ABC in the digital realm. I've spoken at industry conferences and management executive gatherings, special interest roundtables and networking functions, and have presented to the ABC's Board of Directors on several occasions. Topics I've spoken on include strategy, social media, culture change, internal communications, disaster coverage, privacy, resourcing and knowledge management.

Public outreach

I've been fortunate to have had the opportunity to liaise with members of the public in every job I've had, not just via online channels but in organised public consultation and feedback sessions. I am a firm believer in connecting in person, meaningfully, with those our efforts are intended to serve. At the ABC, it's been heartening to see that the value I place in such an approach is shared across the organisation, where audience consultation, user testing, and other feedback opportunities are regularly scheduled.

Workshops

Both with colleagues and solo, I've held a number of different kinds of workshops to disseminate knowledge and skills about matters digital. These have sometimes catered for digital newbies, sometimes for digital natives; for senior managers, program teams, colleagues in specialist roles. I've delivered workshops to organisations with specific targets in mind, as well as ones wherein the goal is to tip the momentum of a whole workplace in favour of taking a digital-friendly approach.

I thoroughly enjoy the hands-on, interactive opportunities workshops offer, both for me as a convenor and for any participants.  Without a doubt, the impact of a successful workshop can potentially leave a far more valuable and longer-lasting impression than many a written version of the same. I hope to continue to explore participatory methods of engaging people in any future roles I may have.
